North Central Arkansas Speedway, 5-4-12

By Scott Ramos

With a nearly full moon and unseasonably warm temperatures, race fans were once again treated to an exciting night of racing in week four of the 2012 season at North Central Arkansas Speedway.

The Hobby Stock drivers led off the feature races for the evening with Daniel Lewis and Cain Foster occupying the front row. Foster took the early lead moving onto the back straight followed by Lewis and Sid Burd, but contact coming off turn 4 on the second circuit sent the cars of Lewis and Burd into the front stretch wall, bringing out the first of five cautions in the event. Richard Carson had a solo spin before the end the first lap back under green that left him one lap down when the yellow flag flew again for a spin by Matthew Seaman in turn two. Carson was able to unlap himself on one of the restarts caused by single car incidents that brought out the yellow flag three more times, setting up a green-white-checkered finish in the abbreviated race. Foster led the field to that green flag, and on the final lap cars went three-wide coming off turn 4 with Seaman making the pass on Foster on the high side of the track to take the win by a nose as the cars were three wide at the start/finish line. Carson went to the bottom of the track and narrowly beat Foster to the line to take home second.

Hobby Stock Final Results: 1)T10 Matthew Seaman,  2)29C Richard Carson,  3)24C Cain Foster,  4)99S Sid Burd,  5)D9 Daniel Lewis,  6)49B Sherman Bryant

The Super Stock division was the next feature race on track, going green with Hunter Duren on the pole position inside of Brent Raulston. The field was three wide behind leader Raulston coming off turn four on the opening lap, with Chris Davidson Duren and Jackie Hensley all fighting for the second spot. Hensley would grab that second spot on lap two, and got his car past Raulston to the top spot on lap five, setting up a two car fight for second with Davidson trying every possible line on the track to try to make the pass for position. Raulston and Davidson would pass under the checkered flag side-by-side, with Raulston claiming second at the end.

Super Stock Final Results: 1)411 Jackie Hensley,  2)04 Brent Raulston,  3)2D Chris Davidson,  4)11D Hunter Duren,  5)R65M Mike Smith,  6)28 Joe Davenport,  7)4U Richard Henderson

The USRA sanctioned Modified division had some difficulties getting started, with a couple of starts aborted due to single car spins on the attempted opening lap, but one the race got started, the next eighteen laps clicked past at a tremendous pace with passes being made all over the track as drivers diced for position. Jason Snodgrass held down the pole position, and led the opening laps, but outside pole-sitter Marvin Forrest was able to get his car to the top spot on lap three setting up a five lap battle for the second spot between Snodgrass and Kandy Methvin, with Methvin moving into second on lap nine. Behind the fight between Methvin and Snodgrass was a three car fight for fourth between Rob Muilenburg, Ray Flippin and Scott Crigler. Muilenburg grabbed fourth on lap 10, leaving Flippin and Crigler fighting for fifth for the next eight laps before a blown motor on lap eighteen would end the night for Crigler. A flat tire for Snodgrass under that caution sent him to the pits for a tire change and set up the final shootout for second through fifth positions. Muilenburg would briefly grab second from Methvin, but at the end it was Methvin holding on for the second place finish, Muilenburg third, and Flippin holding off the late race charge of Tim Weaver to finish fourth.

USRA Modified Final Results: 1)45 Marvin Forrest,  2)41 Kandy Methvin,  3)59 Rob Muilenburg,  4)16R Ray Flippin,  5)7S Tim Weaver,   6)78 Rusty Weir,  7)21F Jason Foster,  8)71 Jason Snodgrass,  9)78JR Corey Weir,  10)12SC Scott Crigler,  11)65J Chase Anderson,  12)87T Kalyb Tribble

The combined Cruiser, Mini Stock and Hornet Class was the final feature event on the track for the evening running caution free to close out the night. Jef Henson led the field on the opening lap, but near the mid-point in the event Keith Katcher would get his car to the front of the field, taking the overall feature win.
